What is the difference between slippers and house shoes?
All shoes for the home are grouped under the generic term home shoes. In contrast to home shoes, slippers do not have a heel section and therefore only consist of a toe cap and sole.
What types of slippers for men are there and what makes a good product stand out?
- Felt slippers: Our felt slippers for men are seamlessly molded over a last and fitted with a leather sole or a felt-latex sole. This ensures safe and comfortable walking on all floors.
- Walk slippers: The basic material for men's slippers made of Walk is the Walk fabric, which is also produced in our regional factory. This is used, for example, to make our high-quality slippers with non-slip soles.
- Men's slippers made from wool from rare breeds of sheep: Wool from Europe is used for these men's slippers. The purchase supports regional shepherds and promotes the breeding and keeping of rare sheep breeds. The comfortable slippers have a leather sole.
- Men's felt clogs: The anatomically shaped cork sole is particularly suitable for comfortable walking and relaxes your feet. This slipper is suitable for outdoor and indoor use. - Men's slipper socks: Slipper socks are ankle-high, warm slippers that are often used by mountain hikers, as they are compulsory in many mountain huts. They look similar to sock slippers. Our men's hut shoes are comfortable and have a flexible outsole.
- Mens wool sneakers: The men's wool sneakers are made from our own manufactured felted fabric and have a rubber sole. The range impresses with its many different colors. Our wool walkers also have a removable footbed. The profiled rubber sole ensures comfortable walking.
Nearly all our slipper models are made locally in our manufactory in Austria, Tyrol. From design to production to final inspection, all work steps are carefully carried out at our manufactory in Ötztal-Bahnhof. Our slippers are cozy and comfortable to wear. - Fit: We have models for both narrow men's feet and wide men's feet. Some slippers are available up to size 50. Men with small feet will also find what they are looking for, as our shoes are unisex. We have the right slipper for every foot!
- Color: Whether you're looking for elegant merino slippers in a multicolored look or men's felt slippers made from undyed wool from rare breeds of sheep - you can choose from a variety of colors and a wide range of men's slippers.
- Sole: Our slippers are available with a vegetable-tanned leather sole as well as with our patented felt-latex sole. The men's felt clogs are available with a cork sole with latex and are therefore suitable for outdoor use. We also have men's slippers with rubber soles in our range.
- Upper material: We use wool felt and wool fabric as the upper material for our men's slippers. Both are very robust materials made from pure new wool. Men's slippers made of boiled wool are slightly more flexible than slippers made of wool felt. Slip them on and feel good!

Are men's slippers suitable for insoles?
Some Gottstein slippers are even compatible with insoles. The most suitable models are those that already have an insole, e.g: Wool felt clog, Alpine Comfort and Classic CO. The existing insole can be easily and simply replaced with your orthopaedic insole or an insole of your choice.

Insoles made from lambskin are very temperature-regulating and their special hair structure ensures that air can circulate. This prevents heat build-up on your feet and keeps your feet warm and dry. Lambskin insoles are particularly beneficial if you have cold feet or sweaty feet. In addition, lambskin insoles have a soothing cozy factor. We also have insoles made from Tyrolean stone sheep and combined models with lambskin that can be used as reversible insoles.
What are the advantages of slippers made from pure new wool or merino wool?
Generally speaking, new wool is wool from shorn, live sheep. Merino wool is the wool from merino sheep and is a particularly fine and soft wool. Merino wool is not a protected term in itself and fine wool between 16.5 and 24 microns is generally referred to as merino wool.
Wool is a sustainable and high-quality raw material with many positive properties, which we make use of in our slipper production:
- Temperature-regulating: Wool is temperature-regulating and therefore warms your feet when it's cold. In hot weather, sweat is wicked away and your feet feel dry and cool in our slippers. That's why our men's felt slippers are very suitable for sweaty feet or cold feet.
- Breathable: Felt slippers are very breathable and allow your feet to breathe. Moisture is transported to the surface and evaporates. Did you know that new wool can absorb up to 33% of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp? That's why new wool is the perfect material for our sustainable wool slippers for men.
- Easy care: Our wool slippers are particularly easy to care for. The lanolin contained in the wool repels dirt and water, making it easy to clean your men's slippers. - Odour-neutral: Virgin wool does not easily absorb odors such as sweat and also ensures that your men's slippers are comfortable to wear.
- Durable: Wool fibers are very elastic and have many properties that we make use of every day in our manufacture of fine wools. Virgin wool is color-fast, hardly pills and doesn't crease much. Are Gottstein men's slippers suitable for every season?
Virgin wool is temperature-regulating, making all our slippers suitable for all seasons. Thanks to the different cuts, we have both open slippers and closed slippers. This means you can wear our felt slippers in both summer and winter and will always be rewarded with an ideal foot climate.
What do you need to consider when cleaning and caring for men's slippers?
Wool is generally not susceptible to dirt and practically cleans itself. Felt slippers are particularly dirt-repellent and easy to clean. Regular tapping is all that is needed to remove dust and dirt from the slippers. Occasionally, the felt slippers can be aired out in the fresh air. Stains can be removed with a damp cotton cloth. The felt slipper should never be completely soaked, as wetness causes the felting process to continue and the slipper to become deformed.
Can I wash my slippers in the washing machine?
Our slippers are not suitable for washing machines, as washing continues the felting process and deforms the felt slippers. In addition, the grease content of the wool and the density of the felt inherently prevent dirt from penetrating.
Can slippers be put in the dryer?
As we only use natural materials for our slippers and do not use any chemical additives or finishing processes, our felt slippers are not suitable for the tumble dryer.
When should you replace your slippers?
Our felt slippers are a purely natural product and are manufactured in an environmentally friendly way without chemical treatment. This means that our slippers have a limited lifespan, which can vary depending on wear and tear. This is in no way a quality defect and has something to do with the natural lifespan of each individual wool fiber. It is generally assumed that the slippers have an approximate service life of 1.5 to 2 years with normal use, but some people use their slippers for up to 10 years.
If the sole of your Stegmann 108 comes loose, there is absolutely no reason to throw your felt slippers away. We can repair such a defect free of charge. Repairing instead of throwing away is our motto here!
